Launch of Judy Burgarella's Weekly Art Journal!
Judy Burgarella is an artist in Sebastian, Florida, originally from Connecticut.

This journal blog will be chock full of artsy information, on a weekly basis, that is meant to inspire, encourage, teach, and push you to create.  The life of an artist--if you push yourself--is filled with wonderful opportunities and exciting people to meet, artistic events to attend, a little money to make, and a way to enhance and enrich your life and make you happier.  Remember, to see art is good, to buy art is better . . . but to DO art is the BEST!

These entries are also for the Newbies out there who need some coaching and tips.  So let's get started, or at least I hope to make a draft now to finish later.

What I'm doing today, August 5th, aside from nursing some dramatic dental work, is compiling some paintings to submit to FLAG, the Florida Artist's Group, which my beloved friend, Sharon Morgan, who passed away last year belonged to.  FYI, applications can be tricky, so you must read them carefully and submit exactly as they instruct, or your application can be quickly rejected.  But once I am finished with this, my next project is a painting of Spenser, a pooch that belongs to an attorney who did a favor for me.  Ah-h-h, bartering, a wonderful thing!  As soon as I finish it I will post it here ... or perhaps I'll post a step-by-step so that you can see how I do it.

It's the next day, and to get your attention I will post a couple of recent paintings, with a brief explanation of why I painted it.

"Night-Blooming Cereus" Acrylic 16x20 by Judy Burgarella

"Night-Blooming Cereus" is now on view at the Vero Beach Art Club's Annex Gallery on 14th Street in Vero Beach, FL.  I painted it specifically for this show, "Big, Bold and Beautiful."  My reference is a photo of the flower in our yard. It blooms about midnight, and is dead by 10am. Huge, spectacular, and the fragrance is soft and beautiful.  Bats love it, and I love it enough to stay up to snap a picture. The drooping flower is the same flower at noon the next day.  Florida is full of exotic flowers like this. I love this paradise we moved to 16 years ago! I'll make sure to keep it on view someplace till it's sold.

My daughter Robin is a real estate agent and she sometimes spiffs up properties with my paintings, and this just may be used as staging for the next house ... which down here sells in one day!  A really really hot market, deservedly so.  It's a much better life here than in Connecticut.

"Dragon" Oil, 24"x36" by Judy Burgarella

My granddaughter, Salem, just turned 10, and just before her birthday she changed from loving unicorns to loving Harry Potter and his ilk: magic wands, capes and clothes, jargon and dragons. So here is part of her birthday present--she loved it! I started out hating to paint it, but then learned to love the dragon, and I do plan on painting many more--such fun! I love things that get me "out of my rigid realistic style." This was done from a collection of dragon pics, and some of it from my head.

Tomorrow I hope to compile my agenda for the season and post it here, as far as I know. This information is also for my students and artfriends to consider exhibiting in these venues themselves. Lots of art opportunities here on the Treasure Coast, so git out there and paint!
